It’s currently pouring so much rain here in Ohio that we’re having to mop the entry-way to the showroom! But, nothing could stop me from writing a quick blurb about the new Seagull Excursion Series. Having just received our first batch, I have to say that I am completely impressed. For under $300, the quality that these guitar possess is unlike ANY other guitar in a similar price point. Using wild cherry for the top, back, and sides, the guitar(s) have a very unique tonal quality. I always describe wood as; it sounds like it looks. The lighter the wood, the lighter the sound, the darker the wood, the darker the sound. BUT I may have to re-think that mindset. The light wild cherry wood looks light it color, but surprisingly puts out a lot of nice, warm low end!

Each body shape has it’s own unique voice. My favorite has to be the grand parlor. There is just something about that “boxy” tone that lights me up. With the folk revolution happening in music today, these guitars fit right in.

#1 Highlight:

Often, when I read or watch a guitar review online there is much talk about the usual suspects; finish, tone, playability etc. Which are all important. But rarely do they talk about the feel of the neck/fretboard, which to me is the very first thing I notice, and one of the most important! If the guitar has rough frets, or the neck doesn’t feel right in my hands I usually just put it down. The fretboard’s on the Excursion models have a machined bevel on the edge, creating a VERY comfortable feeling neck. Check out the image below to see what I mean.

To me, the new Seagull Excursion Series are the most affordable, North American made instruments on the market today. Pick one up for yourself and find out!

From the brand…

Rugged, bare bones & packed full of tone!

Made in Canada, the Seagull Excursion Series sets a new benchmark in affordable, quality crafted North American made acoustic guitars.

It was a very difficult task to create a Canadian made acoustic guitar with this level of build quality while making it so incredibly affordable. However, our fine team of luthiers in Princeville Quebec rose to the challenge and made it happen!

These instruments feature wild cherry top, back & sides made of a 3-layer lamination of real hardwood, Silver Leaf Maple necks, rosewood fingerboards & bridges, burn stamped rosettes and Custom Polished finishes. Also, similar to the S6 Slim, the Excursion models feature the Seagull Slim neck with a 1.72″ nut width, which is great for players who are more accustomed to a more traditional nut width.
