When it comes to brutal, face-melting overdrive, nobody does it like Randall. So, when it came time to cap off TheToneKing.com’s 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2014, we knew we had to go out in style! For the last episode of 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2014, The Tone King previews Randall’s RGOD.
Parental discretion is advised.
Randall has its roots going back all the way to 1946 when Don Randall partnered with Leo Fender to develop Fender instruments and amps. That’s a mighty freaking big first step. Randall amps has always been known for making killer amps. So, it was no surprise when they made the move to pedals.
Tracking how Randall has evolved into one of the mainstays in metal is easy, and Randall’s RGOD is the culmination of that Metalution (patent pending).
The RGOD is a 2-channel FET preamp pedal. Each channel has its own independent Gain and Volume. Both channels share a Bass, Mid, Treble, and a Presence control. Topping off the controls are a Bass Boost, Mid Boost, and a Tone Stack Shift buttons. For players looking a destructive force that rivals an atomic bomb, the RGOD is the box that rocks.
Somehow Randall managed to squeeze their killer RG series brutal tone into a tiny box. And this box has got some bite. The first channel is chunky and feels like a hammer to the skull, perfect for brutal Pantera or Metalica riffage. Push it to the edge of insanity with the second channel. Shred away with enough gain to level a freaking building. Of course, with the Bass Boost, Mid Boost, and Tone Stack Shift, the RGOD is dynamic enough to accommodate some more subtle tones. If you’re looking for subtle.
When gain’s the name of the game, then you don’t have to look any farther than Randall. Over their long history, they have been known for their brutal tone. Since we here at TheToneKing.com are always looking to push the envelope, Randall’s RGOG was the natural choice for the ultimate episode of 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2014. This year has been a blast, and we’ve seen some killer pedals from the old school and the new school. And with the Randall RGOD, we went out with a bang.

About the Author: Marc published his first novel Becoming in 2010. It’s a kick-ass book with monsters and dreams and stuff, and you should buy it. Since then, he’s written thousands of articles for TheToneKing.com, many of which have been picked up for circulation by manufacturers and other news outlets. His next book, Drugs and Pancakes, should be available early 2014 if his alcoholic editor can find time to work on it in-between destroying his liver and screaming about punctuation. He graduated from Roosevelt University with honors, which means that he’s not as dumb as he looks. He’s been playing guitar for over 25 years, which is almost twice as long as most of his students have been alive.
