    Just something to add to this. Put a strip of “painters” non sticky masking tape( the type that peels off clean and residue free) along the fret board will save the finish if you should slip with the file. Even worse than sharp frets is a nice gouge in the fret board egde or neck wood. As TTK points out dressing frets is a fairly simply procedure. But you can make nasty gouges in the wood if your not careful. Good Luck and Rock On!!1
