The Best Music Production Apps of 2021

Whether you’re keen to make it mainstream or you simply enjoy producing music in your spare time, music production apps are a great option. For music lovers, these types of apps offer a range of music-making tools, such as adding a variety of guitars or pumping up the bass, and they are easily accessible too. In fact, these apps can even be downloaded on our smartphone devices.

Making music on a smartphone can be pretty intimidating to start with, but once you grasp it then it can be highly rewarding and result in the odd masterpiece. It’s worth noting that they aren’t for everyone, though. If you fancy giving a music production app a try, then here is a look at some of the best of them.

Topline

A popular app available on both android and iOS, Topline is designed by musicians for musicians. Made by the world-famous Abbey Road Studios, the app is a great tool for songwriters. You can save ideas, record tracks, import files easily, such as instrumentals or vocals, mix files, add reverb and other audio features, and a whole lot more. When you’ve finished a track, you can even share it on WhatsApp with family and friends too.

Garageband

Established in 2004 and still going strong even to this day, Garageband has been the favoured option for musicians for years now. Only available on iOS, the app boasts an extensive selection of tools suitable for a wide variety of genres. You can craft beats easily, add in instrumentals, and
make use of what is one of the best digital audio workstations ever created.

Hum

Hum isn’t free on iOS, but if you’re struggling to come up with some lyrics for a track you’re working on, then it’s definitely worth it. With Hum, users can keep track of notes and make sure nothing gets lost. A dedicated lyric-writing app, Hum lets you store audio recordings and notes alongside a whole host of other beneficial songwriting functionalities. Impressively, you can import audio files through other apps, too, as well as being able to make use of its in-built tuner ahead of any performances.

Songify

Some musicians are superb lyrically but struggle when it comes to writing the music. If that’s you, then consider using an app like Songify. Using Songify, users simply share their lyrics with the app, and it will then potentially give some inspiration in terms of the music to accompany them. It’s worth noting that it can offer up some useless recommendations from time to time, but on the whole, it’s worth a try, especially as it’s free.

iMCP Pro 2

Some people might be put off by iMCP Pro 2’s £23.99 price tag but considering what’s on offer, it could be argued that it’s a relative bargain. The app features a range of brilliant song creation tools, such as beatmakers, an audio integration unit, multiple music sound kits and loads more. You do need an iPad to use this app, though.
