It wouldn’t be 30 Pedals in 30 Days if ModTone Effects didn’t make an appearance. With tone that always stands at the top of the food (effect) chain, ModTone pedals are a welcome addition to any pedalboard. For 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2015, we had a chance to check out their Flextorition supreme distortion pedal and the ATOM power supply.

Okay.

We need to talk.

All of you dudes out there…with your stuff…dropping those mids to nothing…Look! I get it. Some of those mids sound like shit. But you’ve become so jaded by shitty sounding mids that you won’t even give them a chance any more. So, c’mon. Give the mids a chance.

And, you know what. Your faith won’t be displaced here. ModTone took great pains to realize killer sounding mids, and it shows with some brutal face-punching distortion. You know the kind. You plug in your gear at a gig and everybody is sitting there with their arms crossed like you owe them something. Then you hit that open “D” power chord and decapitate everyone in the house. Now, imagine that sound in a pedal. That’s the ModTone Flextorition.

A dynamic distortion pedal featuring 4-band concentric EQ with independent level and gain controls, the ModTone Flextortion can go from the vertebrae-fracturing low end of chugging power chords to the surgically-precision of ear-shredding leads with a twist of a few dials. In addition to true bypass switching, high-impact switch, and all metal construction, the inside of the Flextortion is made up of all top-shelf components—making for a rugged pedal that will stand the test of the road.

Classic rock, country, jazz, blues, balls-to-the-wall metal—the Flextortion has you covered.

Then, there’s the ATOM.

First off, hats off to ModTone for getting right when it comes to offering a power supply that doesn’t weigh a thousand pounds and take up so much real estate on our pedalboards. The ATOM is equal parts light and sleek. In addition, this little power supply can be expanded to power 8 pedals simultaneously with the addition of the MT-A8P, 8-port expansion cable.

ModTone has been a staple of TheToneKing.com’s 30 Pedals in 30 Days for a long time now, and they never disappoint. While there are a ton of distortion pedals out there, ModTone’s Flextortion supreme distortion pedal has set itself apart by being versatile enough to take players on a journey through an entire spectrum of sound. ModTone’s Flextortion is a pedal that sounds as huge as an amp.

Features:

  • Mid Scoop controls
  • True Bypass
  • Level – Gain – Low – Mid – High – Mid Scoop
  • High Quality Switches & Jacks
  • 4-band Concentric EQ
  • All Metal Construction

About the Author: Marc published his first novel Becoming in 2010. It’s a kick-ass book with monsters and dreams and stuff, and you should buy it. Since then, he’s written thousands of articles for TheToneKing.com, many of which have been picked up for circulation by manufacturers and other news outlets. His next book, Drugs and Pancakes, should be available early 2014 if his alcoholic editor can find time to work on it in-between destroying his liver and screaming about punctuation. He graduated from Roosevelt University with honors, which means that he’s not as dumb as he looks. He’s been playing guitar for over 25 years, which is almost twice as long as most of his students have been alive.
