thanks Johnny, i learnt something as per usual - and to the moaning purists, i dont expect Johnny to sound like SRV - whats the point? if we were all SRV, Hendrix, Clapton clones, it would get a bit dull

great guitarists apparently often tend to be great people with big hearts - and their music often reflects this

i must have a small cold red pea pump though - because im crap

It is a very good video! For sure Johhny is not the same man as Stevie, so he plays a little different technique than SRV. It's hard to copy SRV! I appreciate that Johhny shows us this difficult and beautiful style of playing guitar.

Yea this guy is way to distorted. Anytime you use a distortion to substitute overdrive its sounds awful to me. Stevie played very LOUD giving him that awesome breakup boosted by the 808. The guy can play but I personally hate his tone. Im sure it sounds alot better with the other strats he mentioned. But never use distortion as a shortcut to cranking your amp LOUD, cuz it aint the same.

Well, blues maybe. NOT SRV in much style or tone, but it's pentatonic. One big correction, althought a Fender Twin may get you there, SRV did not use Fender Twins, he played Fender Vibroverbs, Super Reverbs, and of course, later on in his career is used the famed Dumble Steel String Singer, but that was after In Step. His go to sound, like from the El Mocambo performance was all Vibroverbs (two of them) and Super Reverbs. Another big thing is SRV played very clean in tone, especially compared to this. WAY too much gain and distortion going on here. Stevie played LOUD, and his Vibroverbs and amps (along with a Tube Screamer to push the tubes) gave him a mid growl, but really listen closely and you will hear that there is really not much gain at all with SRV's tone.

Good blues. Not much to do with SRV though!

As for emulating SRV.... well ... pretty much as bad as the BOSS COSM(ic) emulations. But as he mentions in the beginning, he does not copy them "to the teeth". (Very appropriate disclaimer).
