OfflineIm looking for a "quality" tube amp in the neighborhood of $800 or less.
The features I want are
2 channel with seperate eq for each channel
4/8/16 ohm out put
effects loop
self or adjustable biasing
I prefer something with a vintage voiceing that will handle gospel, country, oldies, and classic rock. Not real concerned with a metal sound maybe some early 80's rock
I have been looking at the carvin VT 50 head and 2x12 cab and the peavy classic 50 combos
Any suggestions other than these will be welcome as well as feed back on these amplifiers.
Thanks for the help

OfflineIn that price range, as you noted, Carvin and Peavey both come to mind.
Carvin makes a very versatile X100B amp, which should suit all of your needs above.
Peavey also makes a boat load of amps to choose from. You should hit both of their sites.
The X100B is (IMO) in a class by itself, b/c it has very clean, and can also get very heavy if so required. As for Peavey, I own a Classic 30, which sounds really good. Their classic series is a good call.
Hope that helps a some,
Thanks & Rock On

OfflineHas anyone here checked out the Marshall Class5 ? I play at bedroom volume levels, and really want a little 12" combo to get some bottom at low volume levels. I also like a nice (Marshall like) grind for leads.
I'm thinking its right up my alley. Sorry if I missed a Tone King review on one, but searched the web, and didnt find one. This seems to be the best forum for talking equipment, so I would really like feedback, positive or negative on your thoughts about the Class5.
Thanks,
Dave (rockpix)

Offlinethe Class 5 is pretty limited in its ability – not that it's not good, but just limited. I'd opt for the Haze 40 combo. Not as small as the Haze 15 head, but not so big that you have to blow people's heads off to get to the 'sweet spot'. 40 tube watts is plenty to keep up with a drummer too. It will do exactly what you described as wanting.

OfflineI was wrong – have to say that the Class 5 sounds MUCH better than I first thought – I still think it's not as versatile as some other amps, but it does what it does damn well! check this out:

wow!
I mentioned this amp in another thread here but a used bogner alchemist head or combo can literally cover every genre imaginable. It's an amazingly flexible amp that actually sounds good vs the spidervalve which is garbage in comparison.
You get 2 channels, each with their own EQ section, built in reverb and delay (which are quite good) a gain boost for either channel and handy voicing switches that change the sound up so you're not stuck with just 1 channel.
Besides the egnater renegade (which is the alchemist's best competition) there really aren't any other choices that fit ALL the critera you bring up.
A separate eq for each channel eliminates a lot of good amps and I don't think you should discredit an amp simply for that reason. There are a lot of AWESOME amps on the market that have a shared EQ.
The peavey classics, as mentioned, are solid choices but I ended up taking a USA built crate V3112T combo over a classic 30 a few years ago.
One other suggestion I'd make is a used fender blues deville (NOT the hotrod) the blues deville 4x10 combo is an awesome tone machine that when given a good stompbox overdrive can cover a LOT of sonic territory and deliver a fantastic clean tone. The hotrod deviille by comparison isn't nearly as clean or clear and the overdrive is pretty terrible too.
