A Little Fish With A Big Bite – Peavey’s 6505 Piranha Cuts Through the Micro Amp Market

piranha demoI remember seeing my first full stack in the flesh.  It was taller than I was, and the sight of two cabs jammed with 4 12-inch speakers each was deafening just to look at.  I wasn’t even sure if there was a room in my family home that was big enough for it.

Now, in my relative old age,  when I see a half stack my back spasms.  Make no mistake, it’s still killer and I would still happily provide a home to several of them, but I’m also a lot more aware of my physical limitations.

I have a feeling I’m not alone, because mini and micro amp heads have made a huge splash in the gear world the past few years.  The world-renowned gear gurus at Peavey have been at the forefront of this new movement in portability and convenience, with smart and soulful re-thinks of their highly-regarded Classic and 6505 amp models.

Now, Peavey has taken it one step further with the 6505 Piranha, a pint-sized-yet punishing micro-head that breathes every bit of the same fire that it’s bigger 6505 brothers are famous for.

The 20-watt Piranha is equally well-suited for bedroom, studio, or stage, with a rugged metal enclosure, straightforward but cleverly implemented EQ, gain, and volume controls, and extra tonal sculpting power provided by a Crunch/Lead switch and onboard effects loop.  Pumped through the specially designed 6505 powered 18-inch subwoofer, you’ve got massive stack sound and articulate low end without the footprint (or need to stock up on Ibuprofen).

It’s amazing that the massive 6505 sound can be contained in such a small package, but Peavey is no stranger to innovation.  Even in the crowded micro amp market, the 6505 Piranha stands out as a winner.

Enjoy this video – where Hartley Peavey introduces the 6505 Piranha to the world, right from the Winter NAMM 2016 showroom floor!  Take notice of his enthusiasm when Michael Smith starts riffing away!
