For those who don’t know their history, Maxon was the company that was commissioned to build the original Tube Screamer pedal. And, we all know how that turned out. What do you do when you build the most popular Overdrive in the history of the world?

You build some more.

The OD808X takes overdrive to the next level by giving players more gain, more control, and some of the most brutal tones that you have ever heard. When The Tone King previewed it for 30 Pedals in 30 Days, he didn’t even have to dial it in. He was perfectly content rocking out on it the way that it set. Most pedals take plenty of dicking around to get that killer sound. Maxon’s OD808X rocked right out of the box.

Well, when you get your own YouTube channel and spit out vids to thousands of subscribers, then you can tweak your knobs however you want.

This pedal has attitude, and sometimes that attitude is contagious.

That’s because the OD808X is all about balls-to-the-wall overdrive. Sharing the basic circuit architecture as the OD808, the OD808X moves beyond its predecessor by offering more output and increased hi-frequency response.

The pedal controls are easy to manage. Drive, Level and Tone. But, easy to manage doesn’t mean simple. The controls are more responsive than the previous incarnation, creating a larger spectrum of overdrive sounds. The controls also seem to play off of each other.
