Hey! The Tone King here! For the last pedal for 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2013, I wanted to do something special. We at TheToneKing.com threw around what pedal would be a good one to end with, and we came to the conclusion that it should be a pedal from a company that has been working with TheToneKing.com since day one. I’m talking about Randall. Specfically, Randall’s RG13 3-Channel Pedal/Amplifier.

Fans of TheToneKing.com will remember the RG13 from earlier this year. The RG13 is a 3-channel, 1 Watt high gain floor pedal/amplifier that will knock you to the floor. That’s no surprise given that it’s made by our good friends at Randall. This FET solid state pedal has a switchable FX loop, Volume Boost Function, 1/8″ stereo media input, headphone out, and a speaker emulated XLR direct out with ground lift.

Well? How does it sound. Well, check out the video. This one has to be heard to be believed.

Now, a few words about this year’s 30 Pedals in 30 Days.

This year was tough. Marc Johnson and myself started heading this year up months in advance, preparing to give viewers and readers everything we could possibly give in a 30-day time frame. Let’s take a look back on what we did this year …

First, we gathered 30 different manufacturers and secured one sponsor for the event. That involved hundreds of emails, phone calls, and many late-night hours of product research.

To make sure that 30P30D2013 was the best one yet, we decided to push the envelope with two videos per pedal (an unedited unboxing vid, full on demo/review of the product) and a full featured write up. Each story was carefully researched, each unboxing was recorded, each official demo / review was captured with multiple audio sources, mixed down for best possible audio & accurate reproduction & sync’d with the edited video footage.

If you said, “That sounds like a lot of work,” you’d be right. It’s a boatload of work.

We strive to keep our content unique, entertaining, and informative.  We know YouTube has become an endless bottom of everything, and there’s only 1 way to maintain your strong hold, and that’s to lead with the passion that got us all here in the first place.  Each time we feel like it’s getting too difficult, we double down on everything. And we do it for you guys, TheToneKing.com community. It’s a testament that we haven’t forgotten who we are, how we started, and where we’re headed!
Collaboration!

We knew months back that we had to have Randall involved with this event. They’ve supported TheToneKing.com throughout all of these years. We had to make sure that we did something unique with them for this year. Most importantly, we wanted to make it fun.

Each and every video this year was communicated with Randall Amps, who cross promoted each and every video.  Not only did they cross promote, but they provided prizes to a winner for each daily video and a grand prize to 1 of those 30.

We also communicated all of the links (write-up, unboxing, and video) with each pedal manufacturers involved.  Know what all of that means?  Best of breed coverage for everyone involved. Why?  Because everyone wins.  They are able to cross promote to their community of viewers, which join our community of viewers, making the content stronger than ever!  It’s like a team.  We only win if we work together!  As for effort – like a team, we’re all playing hard, which takes passion, dedication and commitment, not to mention time that goes into doing all of this!

Compare and Contrast

Remember one thing: In the end, there’s one guy behind this, and that’s The Tone King.

He is surrounded by the support of his wife & family, his fans, viewers and great contributors like Marc Johnson and Francis Gray who provide best content and ideas to the site.

Compared to online magazines that have a full-on staff of people and financial backing to produce their content, The Tone King continues to keep it real, builds it with the dedication of a small team, and still manages to stay at the forefront of events like this. But, as they say, “imitation is the greatest form of flattery.” So, when the online magazines, websites, and YouTubers follow The Tone King with their own version of 30 Pedals in 30 Days, we have to say, “Thanks.”

TTK’s first video showed up on YouTube November 3rd, 2006. We pride ourselves on being first and having trail blazed the way for many others out there. And, we remember where we came from. We know what we’ve done. And, we continue to keep it real.

Who Else and What Else?

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t acknowledge some other folks involved.  Peter J. Cruz is the man behind much of the intro music.  Here’s the DL on Peter.  Helluva nice guy, helluva guitar player. A YouTuber in his free-time, and a family man who works like the rest of us!  His intro music was at the front of it all.  Special thanks to Peter for the fantastic intro music. Be sure to check out his stuff here  and be sure to stay tuned into more of our upcoming collaboration projects.

Special thanks to each pedal manufacturer and sponsors involved. To our main sponsor, Randall Amps.  For the whole 30 days, you got to hear the Randal Diavlo RD100. Hopefully, you got to see how versatile the amps is.  And, here’s a few things to consider about Randall.  They make kick-ass products backed by kick-ass people, designed by kick-ass designers, played by kick-ass guitarists.

Want some names?

Thanks to Joe Delaney, Paul DeMaio, Barry Ryan, Mike Fortin and our fellow YouTuber Ola for keeping the Randall name at the forefront of our eyes, ears, and fingertips. And, special thanks to Carvin Guitars for the The Tone Dragon guitar collaboration project & BC Rich for the TTK-1. All great examples of great people who stand proudly behind the products they make!  And, special thanks to Morley for powering up the pedals for the show, and Holeyboard and PedalTrain for providing the boards when and where we needed them. Special thanks to AmpTweaker, AMT, Blackstar, Budda, Digitech / DOD, Dunlop / MXR, Earthquaker Devices, Eventide, FUCHS, Goodtime Music, Ibanez, Jet City, Maxon, Mesa Boogie, ModKitsDIY, Modtone, Morley, P.o.B, Pigtronix, Radial, Randall, Rocktron, TC Electronic, VFE, Visual Sound, Vox, Wampler & Z.VEX.

Why should you care that I’m thanking these companies? Because they care enough about you to get involved in 30 Pedals in 30 Days.

My kids asked me just the other day, as we were driving home from Friendlies family restaurant, “Dad, if you had a million dollars, what would you do?”

My answer was, “I’m doing it.”

Why?  Because that’s what’s important to me. I have my family, my friends, my career, my hobbies and interests, my colleagues. I have my fans and viewers. I try to be the best Tone King there is, because for me, what makes me tick is sharing all that I have, making a difference in people’s lives.  Whether that difference gives players a laugh or a jolt of inspiration, I know I’ve made a difference.  And, I challenge many of you to do the same

Whether it’s looking at a product that takes you out of your comfort zone, or finding something deep within that inspires you to do great things. We’re all the masters of our own destiny and should keep going. I personally learned how hard it is for someone people out there by having a very close friend have some hardship during this past 30 pedals in 30 Days event. This person with a young family lost his house, was hospitalized, and amazingly continued to stay true to his convictions for you all!  That person impacts much of what we do here at TheToneKing.com, and I commend, thank, and sincerely appreciate all that he’s done throughout the way.

As you’ve heard me say in over 1000 videos, ‘Boys & Girls’, that’s all I have for you!  I hope you enjoyed this year’s 30 Pedals in 30 Days. I hope you enjoyed the videos, stories, contests, and content. If you didn’t already – comment, subscribe, share, and help get the word out!  Remember, you’re the reason why TheToneKing.com continues to exist. And as long as you’re out there, The Tone King will be here bringing you the newest and the best of what’s out there. For now, I’m going to leave you all off with one of these \m/ bad boys right there.  Until next time … Rock ON!
