30 Pedals in 30 Days 2014: Barn3 OX Switching System for Eventide Pedals

static.squarespace

Three dudes walk into a barn and start jamming.

One stops playing and says to the others, “Man, Eventide really rocks.”

The second one says, “Yeah. We can build a killer switching system to fit around those Eventide boxes. We could call it the OX”

The third says, “Yeah, man. Then people will say, “Man, that OX box rocks my socks.”

Okay. So that joke really didn’t go anywhere, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Barn3 OX does rock.

New to market and new to TheToneKing.com is a switching system that may revolutionize the way that Eventide pedals are used in your rig.

There’s no question that Eventide pedals are some of the most intricate pedals around. Whether it’s the Space, Time Factor, PitchFactor, or ModFactor, you’re going to find a plethora of unique sounds that you need to be able to control in unison. And, control is what Barn3 OX is all about. This unique switching system seamlessly integrates into your Eventide set up. Instead of having several complicated midi pedals surrounding your setup with endless lengths of wire, the OX’s ergonomic recessed two-button design is form-fitted for the Eventide using the existing screw holes.

Sure, you can buy a complicated switching system that will sync all of your Eventide pedals to change at the same time. Or, you can simply plug the OX system in and control all of your Eventide pedals in unison. Besides for the presets 1 & 2, and Bank up switches that already don your Eventide pedals, the OX system adds a bank down, and a hot switch. As a bonus, you’ve got a tap tempo switch that will sync all of your Eventides at the same time.

Barn3 also found it important to distance the Tap Tempo footswitch from the rest of the set up. Since it’s the switch that you’ll be using the most, the last thing you need is to aim for your Tap and accidentally change banks. Even though it’s distanced from the rest of the set up, we’re not talking miles. Everything in the OX Switching System is tight, clean, and within foot’s reach.

Okay. And, I have to give props to Barn3 for including an image of Nikola Tesla on the Tap Tempo switch. An inventor whose genius was recognized way too late, it’s no surprise to see his influence on such an innovative piece of gear.

When you’re looking at functionality, there are a few switching sytems that you can choose from. But, with most of those, you’re going to be stuck programming for days. The Barn3 OX Switching System is plug and go. Simple. Easy. Clean. For TheToneKing.com’s 30 Pedals in 30 Days 2014, we couldn’t have asked for a better switching rig to complete our Eventide rigs than the Barn3 OX.

About the Author: Marc published his first novel Becoming in 2010. It’s a kick-ass book with monsters and dreams and stuff, and you should buy it. Since then, he’s written thousands of articles for TheToneKing.com, many of which have been picked up for circulation by manufacturers and other news outlets. His next book, Drugs and Pancakes, should be available early 2014 if his alcoholic editor can find time to work on it in-between destroying his liver and screaming about punctuation. He graduated from Roosevelt University with honors, which means that he’s not as dumb as he looks. He’s been playing guitar for over 25 years, which is almost twice as long as most of his students have been alive.
